The meeting with meira paibis |
A meeting with the meira paibis of Nilakuti and Koirengei area was held at Nilakuti by the 39 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR (South), Imphal West district, on January 3.
The meeting was attended by the company commander and 31 meira paibis of Nilakuti and Koirengei areas.
The women activists expressed their happiness over the relationship between the Assam Rifles and the people of the area and thanked it for the various development initiatives and Military Civic Action Programme undertaken by 39 Assam Rifles.
The women emphasised the need for such meetings at regular intervals for better cooperation. They sought a pre-recruitment rally for the youths of the area.
Two days later, a Sadbhavana Sammelan was organised with the meira paibis at the battalion headquarters of 34 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) in Thoubal district of Manipur.
The meeting was attended by a large number of meira paibis and secretaries of villages in Thoubal district.
The 34 Assam Rifles briefed the congregation about the overall development, peace and security situation in the Thoubal area and the steps taken by the unit.
The women of the 34 Assam Rifles also interacted with the meira paibis during the meet. The meeting proved fruitful as the meira paibis shared their experiences of living in the insurgency-ridden area. The women implored the battalion to bring back the misguided youth to the mainstream.
The meeting further helped strengthen the cordial relations between Assam Rifles and the meira paibis of Thoubal.
eral-officer-commanding-in chief, Eastern Command, Lt Gen. V.K. Singh, was on a two-day visit to the forward areas. His visit coincided with the beginning of the New Year. The army commander saw the difficulties and challenges being faced by the troops under extreme weather conditions in the Ball of Fire division.
During his interaction with the soldiers, Gen. Singh wished them and their families happiness and prosperity in the New Year. He also stressed more professionalism and dedication to meet any challenges the country might have to face in the future. Later in the afternoon, he held discussion with senior commanders.
