CCpur, Jan 29 : Regarding the reported pilferage of PDS rice in Churachandpur which was sold to a shop at New Market area run by one Abung which surfaced recently, the IFP investigated into the matter and found that there was no such thing.

The IFP while conducting search for the facts of the matter came to know from the district supply department and the shop owners in question that the case based on the enquiry was fully baseless.

Sources from the district supply department revealed that the rice that was reported to have been pilfered was rather brought from Dimapur by the shop owner as part of his routine business and did not belong to the PDS items.

The fact finding of the IFP got an information that certain memos that have been retained by the shop owners were snatched which amply proved beyond doubt that it was not the PDS rice, adding that this year not a single grain of rice came from the PDS from January 1 to 22, 2009 for the district.

The rice meant for certain blocks of the district came yesterday only, said the supply department sources adding that it was for relief of the famine affected people.

The source further said that altogether 800 plus quintals of rice that had come only yesterday will be sent to various locations for relief of the famine affected people.

Today, the DC Churachandpur Sumant Singh flagged off all the rice from the Churachandpur godown at about 2.30 pm loaded in eight trucks meant to be distributed to various destinations in Singngat block.

Another source also said that the SP Churachandpur, S Manglemjao Singh was also investigating into the matter and would be taking up necessary action if the reports were found to be true. However, till now there were no substantial clues, it said.
