IMPHAL, Jan 20 : Thoubal district commandos conducted frisking and checking at the Wabagai area today at around 6 am and arrested an activist of the KYKL named Elangbam Sunil Singh, 24, son of Elangbam Ibomcha Singh of Hiyanglam Mayai Leikai.
The cadre revealed on interrogation that he was involved in the killing of non-Manipuris in between Hayel and Hangul village under Mayang Imphal police station in the month of March, 2008, a release from the SP Thoubal said.
Meanwhile, Imphal east commandos arrested a PREPAK cadre named Nameirakpam Hemanta Singh alias Deva, 38, son of N Ibobi Singh of Lilong Shantipur from Minuthong today at around 8.20 am.
He disclosed during interrogation that he joined the outfit in June 2008 and was involved in extortion of money from the general public and government officials in Imphal east area, another release said.
Elsewhere, a combined team of the Thoubal police commandos and 21 Assam Rifles, today shot down one UG suspect at Wabagai Keirak Leirak Achouba at 6.45pm today.
According to a source, one 9mm pistol, three empty cartridge and three live rounds were recovered from the dead man, who police suspect to belong to the KYKL.
The identity person is still not known but his body has been deposited at the RIMS mortuary, the source said.
In another incident, a group of aggrieved people who tried to submit a memorandum to the chief minister protesting the unreasonable arrest of Salam Sanahanba, 35, and Salam Premjit, 25, were prevented from meeting the chief minister.
Narrating the cause of their grievance, a spokesman said Premjit is a retailer in Aircel SIM cards.
This morning at 6.30am, a team of policemen arrived at Premjit`s house and demanded to him to take him to a particular person who had bought a SIM cards from his shop. He told the policemen he does not know the whereabouts of all his customers.
The policemen also asked Salam Sanahanba who lives next door, to take him to the wife of his dead brother who was a PREPAL cadre. Sanahanba also told them he has no knowledge.
Thereafter the two were taken away by the policemen, the source said.
