Aizawl, Feb 3 : The CBI has told a lower court in its report that there was no foul play in the the death of former Moderator of the Mizoram Presbyterian Church and President of the Mizoram People's Forum (MPF) Rev. Chanchinmawia in October 2007.
"In view of the available circumstantial evidences vis-a-vis the forensic experts' reports, prima facie, no foul play indicating a case of homicide is made out," the CBI report, signed by Deputy SP Hari Singh, said.
Rev. Chanchinmawia, then President of the MPF, a church sponsored organisation for political and electoral reforms, was found dead in a pool of blood at his Pastor's official residence at Khatla here on October one, 2007.
The special investigation team of the state police submitted its final report on December six, 2007 to the Court of Additional District Magistrate (Judicial), Aizawl concluding that the priest's death was a suicidal one.
However, the then government led by chief minister Zoramthanga of the Mizo National Front handed over the case to the CBI for further probe on August 21, 2008 as many sections of the people, including the Presbyterian Church, could not accept the report.
The CBI report was submitted to the court of Lucy Lalrinthari, additional and district session judge on Friday.
