IMPHAL, Mar 2 : No work has been found implemented under the incumbent Lok Sabha MP of the Outer Manipur parliamentay constituency during the last five years. Where have all the funds been utilized and what are the works implemented under the MPLAD. This is public money not the private coffer of the MP and there should be transparency in its implementation too. Mani Charenamei has been utilizing the MPLAD as his private fund and no work has been physically executed in his constituency.
This was stated by Athuan Abonmai, at a press conference held today at the Hotel Sagar in Imphal organized by the Concern Citizens for Development formed under Pumzadon Thangsung, convenor of Churachandpur, Washington Shinglai, co-convenor of Ukhrul, Adakho Mao, co-convenor of Senapati, Ali Chothe, co-convenor of Chandel, David Kaming, co-convenor of Tamenglong, P Kamei, co-convenor of Sadar Hills and Kh Basanta Singh, secretary of Thoubal.
Athuan Abonmai further said that the government of India had been allocating a sum of Rs. 2 crores to evey MP for Local Area Development Fund every year. However, it is not the private fund of the MP and cannot be misused for private purposes, he added.
It is very sad that no work has been implemented under the incumbent MP (LS) Outer Manipur parliamentary constituency during the last five years. Mani Charenamei has been utilizing the MPLAD as his private fund that resulted in no work being physically executed in his constituency, he said.
Kh Basanta Singh, secretary of Thoubal informed that in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections they needed to discuss properly who shall be appointed as a right candidate. There is no need to elect candidates who are corrupt and against development, he said.
P Kamei, co-convenor of Sadar Hills said that the present MP Mani Charenamei was totally ‘Mr. Zero’ in the field of development. He has done nothing in Sadar Hills, he said adding that they want the right person to be appointed in future.
The Concern Citizens for Development of outer Manipur parliamentary constituency asked Mani Charenamei to issue a white paper in the matter within 10 days with effect from today, and if he failed the body would launch a series of democratic agitations in collaboration with other civil organizations and NGOs of the outer Manipur parliamentary constituency and bring to an end the tenure of Mani Charenamei for wasting public money for the last five years.
