NC Hills problem in Manipur

Imphal | July 9  : Chief minister of Manipur, O Ibobi Singh informed the members of the state legislative assembly today that he had contacted his counterpart, the chief minister of Assam, Tarun Gogoi to ensure that normalcy is restored in the restive NC Hills district so that the villagers taking shelter in the relief camps in Tousem subdivision, Tamenglong district of Manipur can return safely to their villages.
  The chief minister was responding to a call attention motion made by Awangbow Newmei, MLA of Tamei assembly constituency in Tamenglong district who said that the problem of providing food, care and shelter to the Zeme Naga refugees taking shelter in Tousem have added to the woes of the people of the subdivision, already facing food scarcity due to bamboo flowering in the region. He drew the attention of the chief minister to the problem being faced in the subdivision and to provide necessary relief to help the people taking shelter in the relief camps.
  Supplementing the call attention motion, Morung Makunga, MLA of Tengnoupal assembly constituency, Chandel district said that though the men have left the relief camps in Tousem subdivision, women and children are still in the relief camps  who  are facing food scarcity and lack of health care facilities.  Responding to the motion raised by the two MLAs, the chief minister stated that the state government had started providing relief materials from March 28 and a sum of Rs. 3.64 lakhs has already been spent for the people taking shelter in the camps. 
The government is considering sending more doctors and nurses to the primary health centre of Tousem to take better care of the refugees, he said. He also assured the House that all necessary actions will be taken up to ensure that normalcy is restored quickly in NC Hills so that people can resume their normal life in safety as soon as possible.
