IMPHAL, Jan 17 : After almost 35 years, Meiteis settled in Tripura observed the traditional Meitei ritual festivities Lai Haraoba for three days during December 2009 at Abhynagar village.
The Lai Haraoba observation at Tripura was jointly organised by Lainingthou Puthiba Haraoba Committee and the Research Forum, Manipur under the sponsorship of arts and culture department, government of Manipur.
Disclosing this Dr N Birachandra, president Research Forum Manipur said the main objective of observing the Lai Haraoba festivities in Tripura was create a sense of Manipurisness amongst Tripura-Manipuris whose tradition and lifestyles have changed in a big way.
Birchandra further stated that Meitei men, women, girls and boys living in Tripura came out to join Lai Haraoba festival with traditional Manipuri attires like Phanek, Pheijom which indeed showcased Meiteis living in Tripura towards preserving their indigenous customs and traditions.
Birachandra further stated that several traditional items needed in Lai Haraoba celebration including Laningthou-Lairembi, Komai, Chong, Pee, Thakal etc. along with Amaiba-Amaibi, Pena, musical instrument etc. were brought from Manipur.
A reception function for the team from Manipur which took part at the Lai Haraoba festival at Tripura was held today at the office premise of Research Forum Manipur.
