Indefinite economic blockade affects life in Manipur

Imphal, Feb 1 The Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) today launched an indefinite economic blockade affecting the movement of vehicles on NH 39, the highway linking Manipur to other states.
According to SDSA the blockade, called from last midnight, was in protest against failure of the government to repair the highway.
Due to the agitation all inter state passenger bus services were cancelled and movement of trucks were also stopped.
However from tomorrow the bus services will be allowed to run as usual, sources said. Works Minister K Ranjit said Rs 50 crore has been sanctioned to develop the highway and the government was looking for a qualified contractor.
He assured to start works on the highway soon and appealed to the students to suspend the proposed economic blockade from tomorrow.
