Students protest in Imphal

Police had a hard time Monday in preventing demonstrators targeting Manipur chief minister’s bungalow to air their demands to the government.
Students of government colleges, like DM Colleges of Science, Arts and Commerce, Imphal College, Manipur College, GP Women College, Maharaj Budhachandra College, Modern College and others demanded for appointment of regular principals in their respective colleges.
It may be mentioned that the government colleges had been running without regular principals for the last two decades.
The agitating students lamented that non-appointment of regular principals had greatly hampered the administration which in turn affected the academic atmosphere of the students.
“We have been demanding government to look into the matter and address the inconveniences faced by us for a long time. Education Department (Higher and Technical and University) has assured several times to address the matter but they failed to translate into works till date,” a student of DM College of Science told to this correspondent.
Further, police blocked the rallies of the students in the midways to CM’s bungalow and after a brief exchange of words, allowed their representatives to submit the memorandum to the chief minister.
Meanwhile, members of the Association for DPC Successful Candidates for Primary Teachers/HMT/HGT 2006, Manipur also marched towards the CM’s bungalow today seeking issue of appointment orders to the DPC cleared candidates.
The candidates were demanding issue of the appointment orders based on the results published in a local paper recently which alleged concealment of the result, that was about to declare on April 22 last.
Further, the representatives of the association submitted a memorandum containing their demands to chief minister.
