Govt offices, vehicles torched as Imphal blockade enters Day 4

IMPHAL: Seven vehicles and three government offices were torched along National Highways 39 and 53 as an economic blockade by agitators seeking conversion of Sadar Hills sub-division into a district continued to choke the Imphal Valley for the fourth consecutive day on Thursday.

Seven vehicles, including a car belonging to a CRPF deputy commandant, have been torched on the two highways since Wednesday. At least six truckers were injured as agitators rained stones on their vehicles on NH 53 on Wednesday. Three women were rammed to death by an oil tanker after its driver came under a volley of stones hurled by protesters on NH 39 on Tuesday.

This apart, the offices of the sub-deputy collector at Saitu Gamphazol, the PHE executive engineer and Sarbha Shiksha Abhiyan at Kangpokpi along NH 39 (Imphal-Dimapur route) were torched on Wednesday midnight.
