NPO hardens stand on blockade even as 300 trucks reach Imphal

Imphal, Jan 6 : Even as the Naga People`s Organisation (NPO) has said that it would intensify its ongoing agitation, at least 300 loaded trucks that had been stranded at the Mao Gate in Senapati district of Manipur following the economic blockade imposed by the NPO, arrived at the state capital, Imphal on Monday amidst tight security.

Several trucks that had been stranded at Mao Gate in the Nagaland-Manipur border due to the ongoing economic blockade imposed by the NPO arrived Monday evening escorted by the 2nd Manipur Rifles, informed an official source assuring in the meanwhile, that there were no untoward incidents reported with regard to the blockade.

On the other hand, president of the NPO, M Dili Mao while talking to NNN over the phone informed that the NPO would continue with its agitation until the deputy commissioner of Senapati district was `removed` from the district.

Further, he also revealed that the NPO has been launching various forms of protest demanding the removal of the IAS officer as DC of Senapati district since May 2008.

The NPO had imposed economic blockade along the National Highway-39 since December last demanding the transfer of the Senapati DC, Nidhi Kesharwani on charges of misappropriating developmental funds. However, the DC has reportedly denied all allegations and charges against her.
