
Arms, money and other items seized by Dimapur police in different incidents in DImapur.
DIMAPUR: Dimapur police arrested more than 15 persons involved in various crimes in and around the town in the past twenty four hours and also seized arms, ammunition and cash from the accused.
Police Friday arrested two persons after the duo reportedly looted Rs. 13,000 and two mobile handsets at gunpoint from a sand dealer at Naharbari, Thursday night around 9.30 p.m.
Police also recovered one 9mm pistol, one motorbike (Yamaha) and two live rounds from the accused identified as one Hukavi (27), son of a Vihoto GB of Vihoto village, and a Itovi Sema (24), son of one Ihoshe of Sukhalu village. Both the accused are residents of Purana Bazar.
It was also revealed that the East PS has managed to make a major breakthrough in a highway dacoity case of December last year, where a Manipur-bound bus carrying around 45 passengers were looted by a huge group of dacoits along National highway-39. The dacoits had looted around Rs. 50,000 from the passengers while the victims reported the matter to Chumukedima check post. Subsequently, the matter was referred to Dimapur East PS and the personnel yesterday managed to nab nine non-locals (Muslims) involved in the robbery. The accused were identified as Md. Jiaur Rehman (29), Jakir Ali (31), Abdul Ruddus (35), Hyder Rehma (22), Md. Ismail Hussain (32), Shah Jahan (23), Mobrak Islam (30), Anwar Hussain (46) and Ragiqual Islam (25). All ten hailing from Assam were temporary residents of various colonies in Dimapur.
In another incident, police on January 27 last arrested four persons while they were demanding money from Eros Lane area in the name of Dimapur Orphan Union.
The four were identified as ‘one Tuluvi Zhimomi, son of a Kekhito of Hezheto village; a Shihoto (28), son of one Inato of Tesophenyu village (both presently residing at Padumpukhuri); one Gopal Bahadur Natwar (25), son of a Lil Bahadur and a Eros Gurung, son of one Ganga Bahadur, both residents of Silonijan, Assam. Police seized six booklets of money collection receipts and Rs. 2,100 from the accused.
Acting on a FIR that three youths had forcibly entered a Manipuri hotel late Wednesday night and assaulted a customer of the hotel besides snatching his mobile phone and some cash, police arrested three persons in this connection.

In an incident today at around 1:30 pm, an extortionist identified as Lavanthung Patton was nabbed by Dimapur police for demanding money from different businessmen in Marwaripatti in Dimapur on Thursday night. Cash amounting to Rs. 2035 along with a letter pad and receipt book of “United Tribal Defence Army” was recovered possession of the accused.
