Imphal, June 5 : There is immediate need to impart special training to the teachers of government schools in the state in order to improve the academic conditions at the government schools, said state education minister L Jayantakumar during the 16th annual prize distribution for meritorious students of HSSLC conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur this morning at Kangla Hall in Imphal.
The state education minister, attending as chief guest of the function, admitted the failure of the existing government schools in the state which he said could be due to the lack of good teachers.
He further said that for improving the education system there was need for well qualified and trained teachers at the government schools of the state. The failure was also due to the improper implementation of the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, SSA, in the state.
He also made an appeal especially to the government teachers to perform their duty sincerely in order to improve the academic status of the government schools of the state.
K Chaoba, former chairman of the COHSEM, in his pesidential speech expressed his desire for a special educational policy in the state for improving the educational system, mainly in government schools.
Later, Dr. Hamom Nabachandra, secretary of the COHSEM, attending as guest of honour, announced that awards and medals would be given to the toppers of next year’s HSSLC examination.
In the meantime, the toppers and other rank holders in arts, science and commerce stream for this year HSSLC examination conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur were given meritorious awards along with M Manikchand Gold Medal Award, Joshobanata Tourem Memorial Award, Rajkumari Sanatombi Devi Integrated Trust Cash award, Lietongbam Nelis alias Joychand Singh Memorial Cash Award, Thokchom Bihari Singh Memorial Cash Award, Paite Literature Society Cash award, Meisnam Megha Singh and Thagoi Devi Memorial Cash Award, Irom Kullachandra Singh Memorial Award, Pu late Lalkhopao Singsit Memorial Award, Late Shri Thangjam Bahadur Memorial Award, Late Th Sheuti Memorial Cash Award, Late Khumukcham Nodiasana Memorial Cash Award and N Amuyaima Singh Memorial Cash Award by the chief guest, president and guest of honour of the function.
