Imphal, July 29: A militant was killed and a non-Manipuri shopkeeper shot at in separate incidents in Manipur, official sources said today.
An unidentified militant was killed in an encounter with a team of combined forces of police commandos and Assam Rifles in interior Thoubal district of Manipur, they said.
Sources said the security personnel, after receiving a tip-off, raided Waikhong area, about 40 km south-east of here, at around 9.30 pm yesterday.
As they stepped up search operation, militants fired and one of them was killed in the ensuing gunfight that lasted for about 15 minutes.
A small firearm and some rounds of ammunition were seized from the spot, sources said. The body was sent to Regional Institute of Medical Science and Hospital here for post-mortem.
